Drain Cleaning
Slow sinks, gurgling tubs and floor drains that back up — cleared with the right cable for the pipe, not a jug of chemicals.
From a dripping faucet to a sewer line under the front lawn, Winterhurst Plumbing handles the plumbing in Lakewood homes. Pick the problem closest to yours below, or call (216) 238-6858 and describe it.
Each service has its own page with the usual causes, the warning signs, what you can safely check yourself and what a visit involves.
Slow sinks, gurgling tubs and floor drains that back up — cleared with the right cable for the pipe, not a jug of chemicals.
No hot water, a rumbling tank or a puddle under it: repair when it makes sense, a correctly sized replacement when it does not.
Roots, cracked clay tile and sagging sections in the line between your house and the street, found and fixed.
Thawing frozen lines safely, repairing splits and moving or protecting the pipes that freeze every winter.
Testing, repair and replacement of basement sump pumps, check valves and discharge lines before the spring thaw.
Faucets, toilets, sinks, showers and tubs installed and connected, from a single faucet to a full bathroom or kitchen.
Not every job fits a heading. These are other repairs and projects we take on, often in houses that are close to a hundred years old.
A quick guide to which problems need a call right away and what to do in the meantime. When in doubt, call and ask.
| Situation | Call or book? | What to do first |
|---|---|---|
| Burst or spraying pipe | Call now | Close the main water shutoff where the line enters the basement, then open a faucet on the lowest floor to drain the pressure. |
| Sewage coming up a floor drain | Call now | Stop all water use in the house, including the washer and dishwasher, so you do not add to the backup. |
| Water leaking from the water heater | Call now | Close the cold-water valve on top of the tank, and turn a gas heater’s control to “pilot” or switch off an electric one at the breaker. |
| No hot water | Call today | Check the breaker for an electric heater, or whether the pilot is lit on a gas one. Do not relight it if you smell gas. |
| One slow or clogged drain | Book a visit | Use a plunger, not a chemical drain cleaner. Note whether any other drain is slow too. |
| Dripping faucet or running toilet | Book a visit | Close the small shutoff under the fixture if the dripping bothers you; it is not urgent. |
A few jobs from our photo file. More fixture work, from towel warmers to the copper behind the cabinets, is on the fixture installation page.
We start by finding the cause, not just the symptom: a slow drain might be a hair clog under the stopper or a root in the sewer line, and the fix is very different. Then we explain what we found in plain language, give you an honest price for the repair and do the work once you say yes. Before we leave, we run the water, check for leaks and show you what was done.
An emergency is anything that is damaging your house or makes the plumbing unusable right now: a burst or leaking pipe, sewage coming up through a floor drain, a water heater leaking from the tank, or the only toilet in the house overflowing. Call for those. A slow drain, a dripping faucet, a running toilet or a water heater you want to replace before it fails can be booked for a time that suits you.
Often we can narrow it down. Which fixtures are affected, what you hear and how long it has been going on tell us a lot, and sometimes it turns out to be something you can safely fix yourself, like a stopper full of hair. For anything else we confirm the cause on site before quoting, because two problems that sound the same on the phone can need very different repairs.
Yes. Many older Lakewood homes still have galvanized steel supply pipes that rust inside until the water pressure drops, and some still have an old lead service line. We replace sections or repipe the house with new lines, and we explain what is worth doing now and what can wait.
